Good Gifts

“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. Matthew 7:9-11 NLT
Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing. Psalm 34:10 NLT

APPLICATION

God gives good gifts.

Have you ever prayed for something really bad? Maybe it was a relationship or job?

And then, you didn't get it. What was the point of even praying?

Now, you are in this state of confusion wondering "Why God? Why didn't you answer me? Was I not good enough? Was I not 'Christian' enough?"

You are holding on so tightly to this expectation and, today, I am asking you to let go.

From your perspective, it is just cheese.

From God's perspective, it is dangerous.

God gives good gifts. He wants to bless you with good gifts.

God knows tomorrow, next year, and next decade.

As sinful and selfish human beings, we know how to give good gifts to the people we love. We wouldn't give poison to our best friend or favorite teacher.

God is so much better than us. Let go. Trust that God has a reason for removing the job, relationship, or opportunity.

PRAYER

Dear God, I thank you for the person reading this devotional. I ask you to give them the strength to let go and trust that you have a plan for their life. Help them to surrender their expectations for your best. Please bless this person. Give them the eyes to see you. Give them the ears to hear you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
