Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. Joshua 1:8 NLT
Do you remember your spelling quizzes in elementary school? Your parents would make you re-write the same word over and over until you got it just right. In Joshua 1:8, we are instructed to "study" the Bible. Did you think your studying days were over? Get out your paper and pen!
After we are done studying the Bible (can we really ever be done?), "meditate" on what you read. Think about it. Write it down. Repeat it over and over to yourself. "Only then..." Studying our Bibles and meditating on what we read is a requirement for success.
Are you just reading your Bible to check it off your list? Did you understand everything you read?
Application: Start incorporating meditation in your daily Bible time
1. Write down a quick summary of what you read and how it applies to you
2. Draw a picture representing the main idea of what you read
3. Interact and respond to the verse. How would you handle things differently if you were in that person's shoes?
4. Write down a list of questions you have. Try to find the answers in the Bible
