Ungodly Parents

 My son, hear the instruction of your father, And do not forsake the law of your mother; For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, And chains about your neck. Proverbs 1:8-9 NKJV

God's Word is clear. We should listen to our parent's instructions. Those instructions will bring us honor. For example, most mothers tell their children to eat brocolli. A child who follows this practice into adulthood will be honored with good health.

God's purpose was for parents to love, protect, and guide their children. However, we live in a broken world due to sin. According to the National Children's Alliance, "more than 550,000 children are known to U.S. authorities to be abused." Many Americans were raised in an abusive household with emotionally unavailable or abusive parents. Whose guidance should one seek?

God. We turn to God for guidance. God is the "Father to the fatherless, defender of widows— this is God, whose dwelling is holy" (Psalm 68:5 NLT).
